Happy Year of the Rooster Cake !


What better way to say Happy Chinese New Year 2017, then with a gravity-defying 3D sculpted (Hello, Foghorn Leghorn) Rooster cake?

Cake in progress: Thank you to my amazing 6th grade student helpers, Ava, Bella and Abby!  Shown above making feathers in my favorite cake molds designed by Elisa Strauss for Marvelous Molds, painting Chinese characters in gold luster dust and filling the chocolate cake with vanilla buttercream


Two half sheet cakes of chocolate cake say "Happy New Year" in Chinese.  The characters are made out of fondant and sugar paste, and the cakes are covered in a chocolate ganache flooded with Rainbow confetti.  Ava (a natural born artist) uses a pencil transfer technique on red fondant to create the characters. Upper right hand corner: You can see the naked rooster in the refrigerator waiting to get warmed up with a coat of feathers.
At the Event Foghorn is ready to get his party on at the Golden Unicorn Restaurant in NYC.


Thank you also Malena Tillous of MT Cake design and Cynthia Hsu (again!!) for generously volunteering to assist with making and delivering the cake, which was made for the kids at Friends Seminary school.
